Financial compensation for healthcare related injuries

If you have suffered an injury as a result of the healthcare received you may be entitled to financial compensation.

A healthcare related injury constitutes a physical or psychological injury, illness or fatality caused by the healthcare provided and which could have been avoided. You can only get compensation for injury that has been caused by healthcare provided in Sweden.

All public and private healthcare providers are required to have Patient Injury Insurance for the settlement of patient claims. The healthcare provider or the Patients’ Advisory Committee can help you report your healthcare related injury to the Patient Insurance. Read more about it on the website of the Patient Injury Act

If you are suffering adverse effects owing to a prescribed pharmaceutical product, you may be entitled to compensation from the Pharmaceutical Insurance (Läkemedelsförsäkringen (LFF)). The Pharmaceutical Insurance covers pharmaceuticals prescribed as part of a medical treatment and pharmaceuticals purchased from a licensed pharmacy. The healthcare provider or the Patients’ Advisory Committee can help you report the injury to the Pharmaceutical Insurance. Read more about it on the website of the Pharmaceutical Insurance.
