Application for Swedish licence to practise for applicants from countries outside of the EU/EEA

In Sweden there are 21 regulated health care professions that require a licence to practise issued by Socialstyrelsen (The National Board of Health and Welfare). This information applies if you were trained in another country than the EU countries, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

When you apply for a licence to practise, Socialstyrelsen will assess whether your completed foreign training corresponds to the Swedish training for the profession. If it is found to be equivalent you will have to go through a supplementary programme to receive your Swedish licence to practise.

If your profession is not subject to legal regulations, and not listed below, you are free to approach the employer without any assessment or permission from Socialstyrelsen.
